Chen Shuren (1884-1948) ，named Shao，titled himself De an lao ren，a native of Panyu, Guangdong Province. Together with master painters Gao Jianfu and Gao Qifeng, he is referred to as “Er Gao Yi chen”. He is one of the most outstanding figures of Chinese paintings and a leading member of the Lingnan Painting School. He began to study painting from the famous painter Ju Lian. Later, he went to Japan to study painting and joined Sun Yat-sen in the Democratic Revolutionary Movement.

All his life he tried to bring new ideas to Chinese paintings. He believed that if one would succeed in painting, he should accomplish in literature. He often created paintings with great sense of poetry in order to eulogize the natural beauty. His painting features a kind of grace and elegance, which has a distinctive style.
