The Gallery is named after the famous painter Guan Shanyue and displays his paintings,sketches and relevant historical documents, mostly donated by the artist himself. The Gallery also exhibits other collections.

Born in Yangjiang, Guangdong Province, Guan Shanyue (1912—2000) was an outstanding representative of the Lingnan Painting School.He applied vigorous brushworks and sensuous coloring which effectively captured the sprightly spirit of the time.

TheGallery is designed in a fresh and bright style to indicate the Lingnan characteristics by using different architectural ornaments to implicate the three symbolic words in the artist’s name: Guan (porch), Shan(mountain) and Yue (the Moon). The content is divided into five parts according to time sequence: the 1940s, the1950s to 1960s, mid 1960s to mid 1970s, late 1970s to 1980s and the 1990s,which shows Guan’s career in an all-rounded way. Recently, we held special exhibitions such as Landscape Paintings by Guan Shanyue, Guan Shanyue’s Paintings Collected by Guangzhou Museum of Art and Landscape Paintings by Guan Shanyue: to Commemorate the 100^th Anniversary of the Artist’s Birth.On the other hand, we cooperate with the Shenzhen Guan Shanyue Art Museum and achieve resource sharing. At the same time, we actively promote Guan’s art by co-organizing large-scale exhibitions with National Art Museum of China, Gansu Museum, Tianshui Municipal Museum and Memorial Hall of Lingnan School of Painting.
