前言：

赖少其1915年出生于广东普宁，早年就读于广州市立美术专科学校，加入李桦创建的“现代创作版画研究会”，参与新兴木刻运动，被鲁迅誉为“最有战斗力的青年木刻家”。二十世纪三四十年代，他在广东、陕西、广西、安徽等地从事革命活动。新中国成立后，他先后在南京、上海和安徽负责文化艺术界的领导工作。行政工作之余，数十年来他笔耕不辍，成为“新徽派版画”的主要创始人和“新徽派书画艺术”的执旗人。1986年，他回归故地，定居广州，在艺术上实行“丙寅变法”，勇于探索创新，融合中西，形成独特、强烈的艺术风格。二十世纪九十年代中后期，他在病重期间，仍顽强地坚持在病榻上创作，进行“衰年变法”，色彩强烈、近乎抽象的绘画作品展现了他暮年艺术追求的崇高境界。

2012年至2018年，合肥市赖少其艺术馆、荣宝斋出版社、广州艺术博物院及赖少其亲属密切配合，在全国各处征集赖少其各类作品、文献史料和大批图片，由荣宝斋出版社进行资料整理，分卷编辑，复核校对，精装设计，并邀请专家学者撰写美术评论及专题文章，历时七年，《赖少其全集》终于出版了。该书全面反映了赖少其传奇曲折的革命艺术人生，堪称专业性、史料性、学术性兼具的宏大的文化艺术工程项目。

为祝贺《赖少其全集》出版，又2020年适逢赖少其诞辰105周年及逝世20周年，我院特精选赖少其生前及其家属捐赠我院的作品，以十一卷本《赖少其全集》的编排为序，向观众呈现其波澜壮阔而传奇瑰丽的艺术人生，以此深切缅怀和纪念这位20世纪的绘画大家！

Preface

Bornin Puning, Guangdong Province in 1915, Lai Shaoqi studied at the GuangzhouMunicipal Art College in his early years. He joined the "Modern Creative WoodcutResearch Association" founded by Li Hua and participated in the New WoodcutMovement, and Lu Xun called him "the most effective youngwoodcarver". During the 1930s and the 1940s, he engaged in revolutionaryactivities in Guangdong, Shaanxi, Guangxi, Anhui and so on. After the foundingof the People's Republic of China, he was successively in charge of the leadingwork of the cultural and art circles in Nanjing, Shanghai and Anhui. Inaddition to his administrative work, he has been working hard for decades,becoming the main founder of New Anhui School of Woodcuts and the flag bearerof New Anhui School of Painting and Calligraphy Art. In 1986, he returned tohis hometown and settled down in Guangzhou. He carried out Bingyin Reform in art. He was bold in artistic exploration andinnovation. He integrated Chinese and Western art, and formed a unique andstrong style. In the middle and late 1990s, he became very ill, but he stillinsisted in creating works in his sickbed. He even carried out histransformation at his old age. The paintings with strong colours and almostabstract features showed the lofty realm of his pursuit in art in his lateyears.

From2012 to 2018, various artworks, documents, historical materials and a largenumber of photos were acquired under the joint efforts by the Hefei Lai ShaoqiArt Museum, the Rongbaozhai Publishing House, the Guangzhou Museum of Art andthe family of Lai Shaoqi. All these materials were checked, designed and editedas an album by the Rongbaozhai Publishing House. Experts and scholars wereinvited to write art reviews and feature articles. After eight years, Complete Works of Lai Shaoqi was eventuallypublished. The album reveals the legendary and revolutionary art life of theartist, which may also be recognized as a grand cultural and art engineeringproject with professionalism, historical data and academic nature.

To celebrate the publication of Complete Works of Lai Shaoqi, and tocommemorate the 105th birthday anniversary of Lai Shaoqi as well as the 20thanniversary of his passing away, the Guangzhou Museum of Art organizes thisexhibition on the basis of selected artworks donated by the artist and hisfamily members. In addition with the eleven books as an album, Complete Works of Lai Shaoqi, we presentto the visitors his magnificent artistic life. We would also like to take thisopportunity to deeply commemorate this great painter of the 20th century!
